Teacher of the Visually Impaired in Parkville, MD

Key Qualifications:

• Certification as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired or equivalent credential required
• Previous experience working with K-12 students who are blind or visually impaired preferred
• Strong understanding of braille reading and writing, assistive technologies, and adaptive strategies
• Ability to develop and adapt curriculum materials to meet individual student needs
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills with students, staff, and families

Primary Responsibilities:

• Deliver personalized instruction and interventions to students with visual impairments in both one-on-one and group settings
• Conduct assessments to determine students’ instructional levels, accessibility needs, and goals
• Adapt and modify general education curriculum, classroom materials, and technologies as needed
• Consult regularly with classroom teachers, special education teams, and parents to develop and monitor Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)
• Serve as an advocate and resource for visual impairment within the educational environment, providing support and training to staff as necessary
