Key Qualifications:
- Certification as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired or equivalent credential required
- Previous experience working with K-12 students who are blind or visually impaired preferred
- Strong understanding of braille reading and writing, assistive technologies, and adaptive strategies
- Ability to develop and adapt curriculum materials to meet individual student needs
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills with students, staff, and families
Primary Responsibilities:
- Deliver personalized instruction and interventions to students with visual impairments in both one-on-one and group settings
- Conduct assessments to determine students’ instructional levels, accessibility needs, and goals
- Adapt and modify general education curriculum, classroom materials, and technologies as needed
- Consult regularly with classroom teachers, special education teams, and parents to develop and monitor Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)
- Serve as an advocate and resource for visual impairment within the educational environment, providing support and training to staff as necessary
