Key Qualifications and Experience:

  • Valid state certification as a Teacher for the Visually Impaired (TVI)
  • Proven experience working with students who are blind or have low vision, preferably in a school setting
  • Ability to adapt curriculum materials and teaching strategies to accommodate varying levels of vision
  • Strong knowledge of the Expanded Core Curriculum (ECC) and experience developing Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to collaborate with students, parents, and multidisciplinary teams
  • Strong organizational and communication skills

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Provide direct and consultative services to students with visual impairments, ensuring academic needs are met
  • Conduct assessments to determine students’ functional vision and recommend accommodations or adaptive technology as needed
  • Develop and implement appropriate instructional strategies tailored to each student’s goals and strengths
  • Collaborate with general education staff and related service providers to support inclusion and accessibility
  • Provide training and support to staff and families regarding the needs of visually impaired students
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation of student progress and services provided
