Key Qualifications and Experience:
- Valid state certification as a Teacher for the Visually Impaired (TVI)
- Proven experience working with students who are blind or have low vision, preferably in a school setting
- Ability to adapt curriculum materials and teaching strategies to accommodate varying levels of vision
- Strong knowledge of the Expanded Core Curriculum (ECC) and experience developing Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)
- Excellent interpersonal skills to collaborate with students, parents, and multidisciplinary teams
- Strong organizational and communication skills
Primary Responsibilities:
- Provide direct and consultative services to students with visual impairments, ensuring academic needs are met
- Conduct assessments to determine students’ functional vision and recommend accommodations or adaptive technology as needed
- Develop and implement appropriate instructional strategies tailored to each student’s goals and strengths
- Collaborate with general education staff and related service providers to support inclusion and accessibility
- Provide training and support to staff and families regarding the needs of visually impaired students
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation of student progress and services provided
