Step into a rewarding role as a Teacher for the Visually Impaired (TVI) supporting students in a school setting near Petersburg, MI. This contract position is designed for the 2026/2027 school year, offering an engaging, part-time schedule of two days per week, with the potential for additional hours as needed.
As a TVI, you’ll work closely with students, staff, and families to ensure learners with visual impairments receive exceptional academic support and tailored resources, empowering them to thrive in their educational journey.
Qualifications/Desired Experience:
- Hold valid teaching certification as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI)
- Experience providing instructional support and services to students with visual impairments in a school environment
- Knowledge of Braille, assistive technologies, and orientation and mobility concepts preferred
- Ability to collaborate with general education teachers, special education staff, and families
- Effective communication and strong organizational skills
- Compassion, flexibility, and a passion for student advocacy
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and adapt instructional materials to meet individual student needs
- Provide direct and consultative services to students and educational teams
- Collaborate in developing and implementing IEPs for students with visual impairments
- Support students’ access to curriculum through Braille, large print, tactile graphics, and assistive technology
- Serve as a resource for staff and families regarding visual impairment strategies and tools
- Document student progress and contribute to multidisciplinary team meetings
