Key Qualifications:

  • Valid teaching certification with a specialization as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired or comparable credentials
  • Experience working with students who are blind or have low vision, spanning multiple grade levels (preferred)
  • Strong understanding of braille, assistive technology, orientation and mobility concepts, and tactile curriculum modifications
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and documentation skills
  • Compassion, patience, and a genuine commitment to educational access and advocacy

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Assess student strengths, needs, and learning preferences to develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs)
  • Design and deliver instruction using customized strategies and accessible materials
  • Consult with general education teachers, families, and related service providers to support student inclusion
  • Help students acquire essential skills for academic achievement and daily living
  • Utilize adaptive technology, braille resources, and other specialized tools to facilitate learning
  • Track and report progress, attend meetings, and contribute to the overall learning plan
  • Advocate for resources and accommodations to ensure equal access to educational experiences
