Teacher of Visually Impaired in Portsmouth, VA

Make a meaningful impact working as a Teacher for the Visually Impaired supporting students across a range of grade levels (K-12). You'll travel between schools to provide itinerant services to a caseload of approximately 20 students. This contract opportunity offers you the chance to collaborate with experienced professionals, including a virtual TVI, and ensure every student has the resources and support they need to succeed.

What We’re Looking For:

• Valid Virginia Department of Education License specializing in Visually Impaired Students
• At least 2 years of recent teaching experience in this role
• Demonstrated ability to write, implement, and monitor IEPs tailored to students’ unique needs
• Collaborative approach, comfortable working with general educators and related services staff
• Strong communication and organizational skills
• Flexibility to travel between schools within the district

Your Day-to-Day Responsibilities:

• Deliver direct and consultative itinerant instruction to visually impaired students, adapting teaching methods as needed
• Develop, write, and update individualized education programs (IEPs)
• Partner with a virtual TVI and consult regarding best practices and student progress
• Coordinate with general education teachers and related service providers to support each student’s learning plan
• Use assistive technology and specialized materials to enrich instruction
• Participate in IEP meetings, parent communication, and provide training or resources as appropriate
