Qualifications and Desired Experience:
- Valid certification as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired or eligibility for certification.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Special Education, Visual Impairment, or a related field.
- Previous experience working with students with visual impairments in a school setting is preferred.
- Strong understanding of Braille instruction, assistive technology, and orientation & mobility principles.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to interact effectively with students, families, and educational teams.
- Flexibility to adapt to various learning environments and instructional needs.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) for students with visual impairments.
- Provide direct instruction in Braille, assistive technology, and compensatory skills.
- Collaborate with classroom teachers, support staff, and families to ensure accessible curriculum and accommodations.
- Conduct assessments to determine students’ specific needs related to visual impairment.
- Offer ongoing professional guidance to staff regarding best practices for inclusion and accessibility.
- Maintain accurate documentation and progress reports.
