Key Qualifications:

  • Credentials as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired or relevant certification (or eligibility)
  • Proficiency in teaching Braille to students at various levels
  • Experience collaborating with classroom teachers, paraprofessionals, and families in school settings
  • Solid knowledge of adaptive technology, tactile learning materials, and differentiated instruction
  • Excellent communication and organization skills
  • Ability to develop and implement individualized educational plans (IEPs)

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Deliver instruction in Braille reading and writing tailored to students’ unique learning objectives
  • Conduct functional vision assessments and ongoing progress evaluations
  • Adapt curricular materials, create tactile graphics, and recommend appropriate assistive technology
  • Work with multidisciplinary teams to plan and implement effective educational strategies for students with visual impairments
  • Provide coaching and consultation to staff and families for best practices in accessibility and inclusion
  • Maintain accurate documentation, monitoring student performance, and ensuring compliance with educational standards
