Key Qualifications:

  • Valid teaching certification or licensure for Visually Impaired Education
  • Experience working with students who have visual impairments, preferably in a school setting
  • Strong knowledge of accommodations, assistive technology, and braille instruction
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills
  • Ability to adapt curriculum and develop accessible lesson materials
  • Commitment to empowering students to achieve academic and life skills goals

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Assess students’ unique visual and educational needs through formal and informal assessments
  • Create and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) in collaboration with school staff and families
  • Deliver direct instruction, including braille, assistive technology, and orientation and mobility skills as appropriate
  • Support classroom teachers with training and resources for inclusion and accessibility
  • Monitor student progress, maintain records, and participate in IEP meetings and team consultations
  • Advocate for students’ access to the curriculum and school environment
