Key Skills and Qualifications:

  • Valid teaching certification with specialization in Visual Impairment or comparable credential
  • Experience working with students who are blind or have low vision, preferably in K-12 school settings
  • Thorough knowledge of Braille, assistive technology, and adaptive instructional strategies
  • Strong communication and organizational skills
  • Ability to develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)
  • Collaborative approach with classroom educators, families, and related specialists

Role Responsibilities:

  • Assess student needs to determine the best accommodations and individualized instruction plans
  • Provide direct instruction in Braille, orientation and mobility, and use of assistive devices
  • Adapt classroom materials and instructional methods to optimize accessibility
  • Train and support faculty and staff on working with visually impaired students
  • Monitor student progress, prepare reports, and engage in IEP meetings
  • Foster an inclusive, encouraging classroom environment that supports growth and independence
