Qualifications & Desired Experience:
- Current certification as a Teacher for the Visually Impaired (TVI)
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Special Education, Visual Impairments, or a closely related field
- Experience working with K-12 students who are blind or have low vision
- Strong knowledge of Braille instruction, assistive technology, and accessible materials
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills with students, families, and school staff
- Ability to create and adapt lesson plans for a range of visual abilities
- Compassion, patience, and a solutions-focused mindset
Responsibilities:
- Provide direct and consultative services to students with visual impairments as outlined in their IEPs
- Assess students’ unique visual needs and recommend appropriate accommodations or modifications
- Instruct in Braille, orientation and mobility concepts, and the use of assistive devices
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure accessible learning environments
- Support classroom teachers by adapting instructional materials and strategies
- Attend and contribute to IEP meetings, progress monitoring, and goal setting
- Advocate for students’ inclusion and equal access to educational opportunities
