Qualifications:

  • Valid teaching certification with an endorsement in Visual Impairment or Blind/Low Vision.
  • Previous experience working as a Visually Impaired Teacher or serving students with visual impairments in a school setting.
  • Strong understanding of IEP development and implementation for students who are blind or have low vision.
  • Excellent collaboration and communication skills for working with students, staff, and families.
  • Familiarity with adaptive and assistive technology for visually impaired learners.
  • Ability to travel between school sites as needed.

Responsibilities:

  • Deliver specialized instruction to students with visual impairments in both individual and group settings.
  • Assess student needs and develop, implement, and monitor individualized educational plans (IEPs).
  • Adapt curriculum materials and teach compensatory skills, including braille, large print, orientation and mobility, and technology use.
  • Consult and collaborate with general education teachers and support staff to ensure appropriate accommodations and accessibility.
  • Advocate for students’ needs and participate actively in multidisciplinary team meetings.
  • Maintain accurate records of student progress and document all required data.
