Step into a highly rewarding opportunity supporting a high school student on a one-on-one basis as a Braille-fluent professional. This contract position runs from August 13, 2026, through June 11, 2027, totaling 30 hours per week and coincides with the 2026-2027 school year calendar. You’ll be instrumental in helping a student with low cognitive abilities develop vital braille literacy skills, enabling greater independence and engagement in their education.
Bring your expertise as a Braillist, Paraprofessional, or SLI with braille teaching abilities, and make a meaningful difference every day.
Qualifications & Desired Experience:
- Demonstrated fluency in braille and experience supporting students with visual impairments
- Background as a Teacher for the Visually Impaired, Braillist, Paraprofessional, or SLI qualified to instruct in braille
- Patience, compassion, and a nurturing approach to working one-on-one with students who have additional learning needs
- Strong communication and collaboration skills to work with classroom teachers and special education staff
- Knowledge of best practices for braille instruction and assistive technology (preferred)
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver individualized braille instruction tailored to student needs and learning pace
- Adapt curriculum materials to accessible formats and support active classroom participation
- Track and report on student progress in braille literacy and related functional skills
- Foster a positive, encouraging atmosphere for learning and personal growth
- Act as an advocate and resource for the student’s engagement and inclusion
