Key Qualifications:

  • Certification as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI)
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Special Education, Visual Impairment, or related field
  • Knowledge of braille, assistive technology, and adaptive equipment for visually impaired learners
  • Experience in tailoring educational plans for students with visual impairments
  • Strong skills in assessment and individualized instruction
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with classroom teachers, therapists, and families
  • Excellent communication, organization, and problem-solving abilities
  • Previous school-based experience preferred

Role Responsibilities:

  • Deliver specialized instruction and adapt curriculum materials for students with visual impairments, ranging from mild to severe
  • Conduct assessments to determine student needs and progress
  • Provide direct instruction in braille, orientation and mobility, and the use of assistive devices
  • Collaborate with IEP teams to develop, implement, and monitor individualized education plans
  • Consult with teachers and staff to create accessible learning environments
  • Maintain thorough documentation of student progress and instructional strategies
  • Participate actively in professional development and ongoing training
