Desired Qualifications:

  • Certification as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI)
  • Experience working with students with visual impairments in a K-12 educational setting
  • Strong knowledge of braille literacy, adaptive technology, and orientation/mobility concepts
  • Excellent communication skills to consult and collaborate with teachers, families, and specialists
  • Creative problem-solver with a commitment to differentiated instruction and accessibility

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and deliver individualized instruction to students with visual impairments, adapting curriculum and materials as needed
  • Assess and document each student’s needs, progress, and achievement goals
  • Consult with classroom teachers to support inclusive practices and classroom accommodations
  • Provide training in braille, low-vision tools, and assistive technology to students, staff, and families
  • Build confidence and independence in students, fostering social and functional skills for success in and out of the classroom
  • Participate in IEP meetings and collaborate on educational planning
  • Stay current with best practices and advancements in visual impairment education
