Qualifications & Experience:

  • Valid credential or certification as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired
  • Experience working with students who have visual impairments across a range of ages and educational needs
  • Strong grasp of assistive technologies, Braille, and adaptable instructional strategies
  • Collaborative attitude, with the ability to partner with teachers, therapists, families, and other school staff
  • Flexibility and empathy for diverse learning profiles

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) tailored to each student’s unique strengths and goals
  • Teach specialized core curricula, including Braille and orientation/mobility skills
  • Provide guidance and training to general education staff on best practices for including visually impaired students
  • Assess student progress and adapt approaches to maximize learning outcomes
  • Communicate regularly with families regarding progress and resources
  • Serve as an advocate for accessibility and inclusion within the school environment
