Qualifications & Desired Experience:

  • Certification to teach students with visual impairments
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Visual Impairments, Special Education, or related field
  • Previous experience working with K-12 students preferred
  • Strong knowledge of Braille, assistive technology, and adaptive devices
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills
  • Ability to develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs)
  • Adaptability and passion for supporting student success

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide direct instructional support to students with visual impairments across various grade levels
  • Adapt curriculum materials for accessibility, including Braille and large print
  • Collaborate with general and special education staff to ensure effective classroom accommodations
  • Conduct assessments to determine students’ functional vision and learning needs
  • Consult with parents, therapists, and school teams
  • Facilitate orientation and mobility training, as needed
  • Participate in IEP meetings and contribute to progress monitoring and professional documentation
