Qualifications & Experience:
- Valid credential or certification as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired
- Experience working with students who have visual impairments across a range of ages and educational needs
- Strong grasp of assistive technologies, Braille, and adaptable instructional strategies
- Collaborative attitude, with the ability to partner with teachers, therapists, families, and other school staff
- Flexibility and empathy for diverse learning profiles
Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) tailored to each student’s unique strengths and goals
- Teach specialized core curricula, including Braille and orientation/mobility skills
- Provide guidance and training to general education staff on best practices for including visually impaired students
- Assess student progress and adapt approaches to maximize learning outcomes
- Communicate regularly with families regarding progress and resources
- Serve as an advocate for accessibility and inclusion within the school environment
