Key Qualifications and Experience:
- Valid teaching certification for Visually Impaired (VI) in California
- Additional Orientation & Mobility (O&M) Specialist certification a plus
- Experience or certification as a braille transcriber highly valued
- Strong understanding of adapting curriculum and materials for students with visual impairments
- Ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including school staff and families
- Knowledge of Braille and accessible educational technologies
Core Responsibilities:
- Deliver specialized instruction tailored to students’ individual education plans (IEPs)
- Develop and adapt instructional materials to meet visual needs, ensuring accessibility
- Provide direct support and strategies for orientation and mobility training, if qualified
- Consult and collaborate with general education teachers on inclusion strategies
- Monitor and document student progress for reporting and IEP meetings
- Create Braille and other tactile materials or coordinate with braille transcribers
