Qualifications & Desired Background:
- Valid certification or licensure as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI)
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Special Education or related field
- Experience working with students who are blind or visually impaired, in PreK–12 settings
- Strong understanding of Braille, assistive technology, and adaptive equipment
- Ability to develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)
- Excellent communication and team collaboration skills
- Flexibility and creativity in adapting materials and lessons
Daily Responsibilities:
- Provide direct instruction and support to students with visual impairments, adapting lessons and materials for accessibility
- Collaborate with classroom teachers, staff, and families to facilitate inclusive education
- Assess students’ functional vision and learning environments to determine educational needs
- Train students in use of Braille, large print, and assistive technology devices
- Support independence in orientation and mobility in the classroom and school environment
- Attend and contribute to IEP meetings, providing expertise and advocacy for students’ needs
- Maintain thorough documentation and track student progress throughout the school year
