Make a difference supporting visually impaired students in a specialized educational setting near Seattle, WA. This contract position provides an opportunity for skilled professionals with expertise as a Visually Impaired Teacher and Braillist to deliver impactful instruction, customized resources, and direct student support.
Qualifications and Preferred Experience:
- Valid certification as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI) or relevant credential
- Proficient in Braille transcription, reading, and instructional strategies
- Experience adapting mainstream curriculum for visually impaired learners
- Ability to work collaboratively within school teams, including special education staff and classroom teachers
- Strong communication skills for working with students, families, and colleagues
- Familiarity with assistive technology for visually impaired education is a plus
- Previous experience in a K-12 setting is highly valued
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement individualized educational plans (IEPs) tailored to each student’s needs
- Provide direct instruction in Braille reading and writing
- Adapt instructional materials into accessible formats, including tactile graphics and audio
- Collaborate closely with educators to modify classroom activities and assessments
- Train and support students in the use of assistive technologies and other adaptive tools
- Offer guidance and resources to families, helping them support their child’s learning journey
- Maintain thorough records and progress reports, ensuring compliance with educational standards
