Key Qualifications:
- Certification/licensure as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI)
- Experience working with children and adolescents who are blind or have low vision
- Knowledge of Braille, assistive technology, and adaptive instructional materials
- Strong communication and collaboration skills
- Ability to develop and implement Individualized Education Plans (IEPs)
- Flexibility, organizational skills, and a passion for empowering students
Primary Responsibilities:
- Provide direct instruction and support to students with visual impairments in individual and group settings
- Collaborate with classroom teachers, special education staff, and related service providers
- Adapt curriculum materials and recommend accommodations to foster student access
- Conduct functional vision and learning media assessments
- Train staff and families on assistive technology and Braille literacy
- Monitor and document student progress, maintaining clear records
- Participate in IEP meetings, contribute to goal setting, and advocate for student needs
