Embark on a fulfilling, contract-based opportunity impacting the lives of students as a Teacher for the Visually Impaired. Starting August 5, 2026, through May 19, 2027, you'll work full-time (35 hours weekly, with potential consideration for part-time) in an itinerant role, supporting learners across elementary, middle, and high school levels in the Chattanooga area. You'll have a direct hand in shaping educational experiences for students with a variety of visual impairments, including those in general and specialized classroom settings.
What you’ll bring:
- Valid DOE Certification and up-to-date fingerprint clearance
- Extensive knowledge of Braille and experience with assistive technology (familiarity with accessing tech via Federal Quota program is a plus)
- Proven comfort navigating school caseloads (K–12+), including both mainstream and special education populations
- Proficiency supporting students' individualized learning plans, including active participation in IEP meetings via the TN Pulse platform
- Effective collaboration with educational teams and adaptability to travel between assigned school sites (schedules and campuses assigned geographically to minimize commute time)
- Ability to utilize Chromebooks as instructional tools for students
In this role, you’ll:
- Deliver specialized instruction and support to students with visual impairments across multiple campuses
- Partner with general and special education teachers to ensure seamless student integration
- Develop, adapt, and monitor educational materials and assistive technology to suit individual student needs
- Track progress, update records, and participate in IEP meetings to ensure optimal outcomes
- Foster independence and advocacy skills in students
