Teacher for the Visually Impaired - Smyrna, Delaware

Support students in reaching their full potential as a Visually Impaired Teacher at a welcoming school near Smyrna, DE. This contract opportunity allows you to make a meaningful impact as you collaborate with a multidisciplinary team and deliver specialized instruction tailored to each student's unique needs.

Qualifications:

• Valid teaching licensure for Visually Impaired Students (or eligibility to obtain)
• Experience working with children who are blind or have low vision in a school or educational setting
• Strong understanding of Braille, assistive technology, and adaptive materials
• Ability to conduct functional vision assessments and develop individualized educational plans (IEPs)
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills with students, families, and staff
• Flexibility to adapt instructional methods and environment to support student success

Responsibilities:

• Provide direct and consultative services to students with visual impairments, ensuring that instructional materials and classroom environments are accessible
• Conduct comprehensive assessments and contribute to the development and implementation of IEPs
• Collaborate with classroom teachers, therapists, and families to facilitate individualized instruction and accommodations
• Deliver instruction in Braille, orientation and mobility skills, and the use of assistive technology as needed
• Monitor and document student progress toward goals, adjusting strategies as appropriate
• Offer training and support to staff members working with visually impaired students
