Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Education or Special Education, with a specialization in Visual Impairment
  • Valid teaching certification for Visually Impaired learners
  • Experience designing and adapting curriculum and instructional materials for students with visual impairments
  • Knowledge of Braille, assistive technology, and orientation & mobility techniques
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, working well with students, staff, and families
  • Commitment to fostering academic achievement and independence for each student

Responsibilities:

  • Deliver individualized instruction to students with visual impairments in various educational settings
  • Assess student abilities and develop tailored educational plans in partnership with IEP teams
  • Adapt classroom materials into accessible formats, such as Braille and large print
  • Introduce and support the use of assistive technology and specialized equipment
  • Provide ongoing consultation for classroom teachers on best practices for inclusion and accessibility
  • Monitor student progress, maintain accurate documentation, and participate in regular team meetings
  • Support transition planning and skills for student independence
