Bring your expertise in teaching students with visual impairments to a fulfilling contract opportunity in the Chattanooga area. Work across elementary, middle, and high schools, providing vital support as an itinerant Teacher for the Visually Impaired (TVI). This position is a full-time role at 35 hours a week for the 2026-2027 school year, though qualified part-time applicants may also be considered. You’ll gain experience working with diverse learners, collaborate with dedicated educators, and make a significant impact on students’ educational journeys.
What We’re Looking For:
- Valid and active Department of Education certification as a Teacher for the Visually Impaired
- Proven experience supporting K-12 students with visual impairments, both in general education and special education settings
- Confidence in using and teaching Braille
- Proficiency with assistive technology; extra consideration if you have experience with the Federal Quota program
- Comfort with Chromebooks as student devices
- Familiarity with TN Pulse platform for IEPs (or willingness to learn quickly)
- Ability to travel between assigned schools within a geographically sensible area
- Successful background check, including fingerprinting, required prior to start
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage and support a K-12+ caseload, with balanced assignments across elementary, middle, and high school levels
- Deliver direct instructional and consultative services to students with visual impairments, including those with multiple disabilities
- Actively participate in IEP meetings and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams
- Adapt materials and curriculum, leveraging assistive technology to enhance student access and learning
