Ideal candidates will possess:
- Current certification as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI)
- Experience providing direct and consultative services to students with visual impairments in a school setting
- Familiarity with various assistive technology and Braille instruction
- Strong communication skills for collaborating with educators, families, and support staff
- Commitment to creating individualized educational plans and contributing to IEP teams
- Flexibility and creativity in adapting instructional materials
- Ability to travel locally as needed for student support
Your day-to-day responsibilities will include:
- Assessing students’ functional vision and learning needs
- Developing and implementing individualized instruction tailored to student abilities and goals
- Collaborating with classroom teachers, special education personnel, and families to promote accessible learning
- Providing Braille or large print instruction, orientation and mobility suggestions, and technology support
- Attending and contributing to IEP meetings
- Monitoring and documenting student progress, making data-driven recommendations
- Staying current with best practices in visual impairment education
