Make a meaningful impact by supporting the educational journey of students with visual impairments in a full-time, contract-based role. As a Teacher for the Visually Impaired (TVI), you’ll play a vital part in empowering learners from PreK through 12th grade to reach their full academic and personal potential. This is a long-term position, starting as soon as possible and extending through May 2027, offering a consistent schedule of 37.5 hours each week.
Qualifications & Desired Experience:
- Certification as a Teacher for the Visually Impaired or eligibility to obtain appropriate credentials
- Experience providing direct instruction and consultation for visually impaired students across various age groups and educational settings
- Strong understanding of Braille, assistive technology, and accessibility tools
- Proven ability to collaborate with classroom teachers, support staff, and families to develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs)
- Excellent organizational, communication, and advocacy skills
Principal Responsibilities:
- Deliver specialized instruction to students with visual impairments, adapting curriculum and materials as needed for accessibility
- Conduct functional vision assessments and contribute to evaluations
- Develop and monitor individualized educational plans, setting measurable goals for students
- Consult with teachers and staff on best practices for inclusion and accessibility within the general education environment
- Train and support students in the use of braille, low-vision devices, and other assistive technologies
- Facilitate communication between school teams, families, and outside agencies to ensure comprehensive student support
