In this role, you’ll work closely with students, educators, and families to foster an accessible and engaging learning experience for students with visual impairments. Your specialized skills will empower students to achieve their individual potential within a supportive school setting.

Qualifications:

  • Valid certification or credential as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired
  • Experience working with students with visual impairments in educational settings
  • Strong knowledge of Braille and accessible instructional materials
  • Confidence in collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, including general and special education staff
  • Compassionate communication and advocacy for student needs
  • Ability to develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)
  • Comfortable adapting teaching strategies to meet diverse learning requirements

Responsibilities include:

  • Assessing students’ functional vision and educational needs
  • Developing individualized teaching plans and instructional materials
  • Direct instruction of students in Braille, assistive technology, and orientation/mobility
  • Consulting with classroom teachers and support staff to ensure curriculum accessibility
  • Collaborating with families and service providers to promote student independence
  • Participating in IEP meetings and providing necessary documentation
