Step into an impactful role supporting students with visual impairments in a dynamic school environment near Tacoma, WA. As a contract teacher specializing in visual impairment, you’ll serve as a vital resource, ensuring students have access to individualized instruction and accommodations that promote their academic success and independence.
Responsibilities will include:
- Delivering direct instruction to students with visual impairments, both individually and in small groups
- Developing, implementing, and monitoring Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)
- Conducting assessments to evaluate students’ functional vision, learning needs, and adaptive skills
- Collaborating with general education teachers and staff to implement accommodations and modifications
- Providing orientation and mobility training, as appropriate
- Serving as an advocate for students and facilitating communication with families
- Consulting on assistive technology, Braille instruction, and accessible educational materials
Preferred qualifications:
- Valid and current state teaching certification for Visually Impaired or the eligibility to obtain it
- Demonstrated experience supporting students with visual impairments in a school setting
- Knowledge of Braille and assistive technology
- Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills
- Ability to create inclusive and accessible learning environments
