Teacher of the Visually Impaired in Tavares, FL

Step into a dynamic role supporting students across multiple schools as a Teacher for the Visually Impaired (TVI) with an Orientation & Mobility Specialist (OMS) certification. This full-time, contract position is based near Tavares, FL, and primarily operates on-site, with periodic travel for direct services and some opportunities for remote consultations. You'll serve K–12 students throughout an itinerant assignment, collaborating closely with district staff to create a personalized, efficient schedule that minimizes commute times and maximizes impact.

Key Qualifications:

• Valid Florida Professional Teacher of the Visually Impaired License
• Current OMS (Orientation & Mobility Specialist) Certification—essential
• Testing and screening experience for visually impaired students
• School-based experience strongly preferred, though not required
• Background in both consultative and direct service delivery
• Comfort with traveling between assigned schools and adapting to a flexible environment

Primary Responsibilities:

• Provide direct and indirect instruction and support to approximately 15–20 visually impaired students, ages K–12, across 13 schools (serving 2–3 sites daily)
• Conduct student screenings, assessments, and develop individualized service plans, ensuring legal and ethical compliance
• Deliver monthly consultative services for some students as needed
• Collaborate with educators, staff, and families to support student achievement and accessibility
• Maintain accurate records and follow district-specific onboarding and credentialing procedures
• Utilize the main district office as your home base while efficiently managing your schedule and travel between schools
