As a Teacher of the Visually Impaired, you’ll help create accessible curriculum, advocate for inclusive classroom practices, and empower students to approach learning with confidence and independence.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Education, Special Education, or a related field
- Valid certification or licensure as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired
- Experience working with students who have visual impairments in school settings
- Strong understanding of assistive technology, Braille instruction, and accessible educational materials
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills
- Ability to tailor instruction to diverse learning needs
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) for students with visual impairments
- Conduct assessments to determine students’ visual and functional needs
- Consult with teachers, specialists, and families to modify classroom materials and provide accommodations
- Teach Braille, orientation and mobility skills, and use of adaptive technology
- Foster an inclusive environment that supports positive student outcomes and builds confidence
- Participate in ongoing professional development and contribute to multidisciplinary teams
