This full-time, contract opportunity allows you to utilize your expertise across a diverse school-aged caseload in the area surrounding West Chester, PA. As an itinerant teacher, you’ll provide essential instruction and resources to students with visual impairments, working collaboratively with school teams and families to ensure equitable access to education.
This role offers an engaging, dynamic schedule as you travel to different schools within the county, maximizing your impact by tailoring support to each student’s individual needs.
What you’ll bring:
- State certification as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI) or eligibility for certification
- Experience supporting students who are blind or have low vision in academic and functional settings
- Strong understanding of adaptive technologies and Braille instruction
- Ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams, school staff, and families
- Excellent communication, organization, and documentation skills
- Passion for empowering students to achieve their educational goals
Key responsibilities:
- Deliver direct instruction to students on your itinerant caseload, addressing academic and daily living skills
- Adapt curriculum and materials into accessible formats, including Braille or large print when needed
- Assess and track student progress, developing and updating individualized education plans (IEPs)
- Consult with teachers and staff about classroom modifications and accessible teaching strategies
- Advocate for students’ needs while fostering independence and self-advocacy
- Travel independently to assigned schools within the county as needed
