Key Qualifications:
- Valid teaching certification with a specialization in Visual Impairment
- Experience working with students who are blind or have low vision
- Solid understanding of Braille, assistive technologies, and adaptive equipment
- Ability to collaborate effectively with classroom teachers, parents, and support staff
- Skilled in developing and implementing customized educational plans
- Strong communication and organizational abilities
Primary Responsibilities:
- Assess the unique educational needs of students with visual impairments and create individualized learning plans
- Provide direct instruction in core and expanded core curricula, including Braille, orientation and mobility, and daily living skills
- Assist school staff in adapting classroom materials and strategies to accommodate students’ visual needs
- Support the use and integration of adaptive technology to enhance learning
- Conduct training and offer consultation for staff and families to build understanding and confidence in supporting visually impaired learners
- Participate in IEP meetings and maintain accurate documentation for student progress
