As a Teacher for the Visually Impaired, you'll work with two elementary students—a 3rd grader with significant visual needs, and a 4th grader who requires ongoing VI support despite corrective lenses. You’ll be instrumental in fostering their development and ensuring they receive the resources and instruction necessary to thrive.
Key Qualifications:
- Experienced as a Teacher for the Visually Impaired (TVI), with knowledge of best instructional and adaptive practices
- Background working with students in elementary settings, particularly those with visual impairments or other diverse needs
- State certification as a TVI preferred, but open to candidates with relevant licensure (including out-of-state)
- Comfortable supporting students with a range of visual abilities, from those with significant needs to those benefiting from ongoing assistance
- Strong communication skills for collaboration with IEP teams, families, and faculty
Role Responsibilities:
- Deliver a total of 4 hours weekly (3 hours direct instruction, 1 hour for IEP preparation and implementation)
- Develop and adapt instructional materials and learning environments for students’ individualized needs
- Provide direct services and ongoing support for both students in 3rd and 4th grade, tailoring techniques based on their unique visual and educational requirements
- Maintain documentation, progress reports, and contribute actively to IEP meetings and goal setting
- Coordinate with school staff, special education teams, and families to ensure comprehensive student support
