Qualifications & Desired Experience:
- Valid certification as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI)
- Previous teaching experience with students who are blind or have low vision preferred
- Strong knowledge of braille, assistive technology, and accommodations
- Excellent communication skills with students, staff, and families
- Ability to adapt instructional materials for visually impaired learners
Primary Responsibilities:
- Deliver individualized and group instruction to students with visual impairments
- Collaborate with classroom teachers, special education staff, and related service providers to implement effective learning strategies
- Develop, monitor, and update Individualized Education Plans (IEPs)
- Conduct functional vision assessments and recommend appropriate accommodations or modifications
- Provide training and support for staff on assistive devices and techniques
- Foster independence and self-advocacy skills in students
