Key Qualifications:
- Valid Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI) license for Virginia
- Experience teaching students who are visually impaired, preferably within school environments
- Proficiency in teaching Braille and adapting instructional materials for various vision needs
- Comfortable working in person in a classroom setting (virtual options may be considered in select cases)
- Strong communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with students, staff, and families
Primary Responsibilities:
- Deliver direct instruction in Braille and assistive technology to visually impaired students
- Assess individual learning needs and tailor instruction to support student progress
- Adapt curriculum and educational materials to ensure accessibility and facilitate meaningful participation
- Collaborate with educators, support staff, and families to construct and implement Individualized Education Plans (IEPs)
- Provide training and consultation to school personnel on best practices for visual impairment accommodations
- Maintain thorough documentation of student goals, instructional outcomes, and progress
