Key Qualifications:

  • Valid Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI) license for Virginia
  • Experience teaching students who are visually impaired, preferably within school environments
  • Proficiency in teaching Braille and adapting instructional materials for various vision needs
  • Comfortable working in person in a classroom setting (virtual options may be considered in select cases)
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with students, staff, and families

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Deliver direct instruction in Braille and assistive technology to visually impaired students
  • Assess individual learning needs and tailor instruction to support student progress
  • Adapt curriculum and educational materials to ensure accessibility and facilitate meaningful participation
  • Collaborate with educators, support staff, and families to construct and implement Individualized Education Plans (IEPs)
  • Provide training and consultation to school personnel on best practices for visual impairment accommodations
  • Maintain thorough documentation of student goals, instructional outcomes, and progress
