BayCare Morton Plant Hospital

BayCare Morton Plant Hospital may not be the most architecturally striking hospital, but its setting is undeniably beautiful. With views overlooking the Sand Key Bridge, the Intracoastal Waterway, and the Gulf of Mexico, the hospital offers a peaceful backdrop that would rank among the most memorable hospital views. Yet, the true beauty of Morton Plant Hospital is found not in its scenery, but in its people and the profound impact it has on the community it serves.

For one family and nominator, Morton Plant became much more than a hospital. When a beloved brother and father was diagnosed with Stage 4 colon cancer, he was uninsured and unable to work. Morton Plant’s physicians, staff, and foundation provided compassionate care, treatment, and support that ultimately gave the family 30 additional months together. The hospital’s patient navigators worked alongside the family to help them navigate insurance options and complete the necessary paperwork, ensuring he could continue receiving the care he needed.

Throughout his journey, he was treated with dignity and compassion, regardless of his financial circumstances. His connection to Morton Plant was also deeply rooted in his family history. He was born at the hospital, as were all three of his children. His mother worked for Hospice there, and he ultimately received his surgeries, treatments, and hospice care at the same institution.

Morton Plant Hospital demonstrates that the beauty of a hospital is ultimately measured by the lives it touches. Its greatest beauty is found in the compassion of its staff, its commitment to the community, and the dignity it provides to every patient who walks through its doors.
