Jasper Memorial Hospital is a powerful reminder that the beauty of a hospital is not always found in flawless walls or impressive architecture.

The physical environment at Jasper Memorial reflects the hospital’s deep commitment to its patients and community. Following the COVID-19 pandemic, the hospital made significant investments in its facility to create spaces that promote healing and give the community a local hospital it can be proud of. Patient rooms are clean, spacious, and thoughtfully designed, featuring beautifully tiled walk-in showers, large windows, and accessibility for patients using even larger wheelchairs. Outside those windows, hummingbird feeders have even become part of the experience, with staff becoming experts at keeping them supplied.

But the most meaningful beauty at Jasper Memorial cannot be captured in a photograph. On August 8, 2025, the hospital experienced a devastating loss when ER Manager Crystal Gresham was struck by a vehicle while crossing the street between the hospital and an overflow parking lot. Her coworkers immediately rushed to her aid and fought alongside her, but after several weeks, Crystal passed away at just 44 years old. Having been part of Jasper Memorial since 2017, she had become a deeply valued member of the hospital and the surrounding community.

The nominator remembers the loss of Gresham as one that left a lasting scar, and also revealed something extraordinary about the people who remained. The staff grieved together, prayed together, and then returned to what they knew she would have wanted them to do: take care of their patients. They continued showing up for one another and for their community, carrying their grief while maintaining the same dedication to those entrusted to their care.

That is the true beauty of Jasper Memorial Hospital. It is not perfection. It is resilience. It is compassion in the face of hardship, teamwork during moments of unimaginable pain, and commitment to patients even through difficult times.
