PCU/Stepdown Registered Nurse (RN) | Johnson City, New York

A rewarding opportunity is available for an experienced Registered Nurse with significant background in Cardiac Stepdown/Progressive Care Unit (PCU) environments, supporting patients recovering from complex cardiovascular procedures and acute cardiac events. This is a contract role requiring a high degree of clinical proficiency and adaptability within a dynamic healthcare setting.

Schedule:

• 12-hour night shifts
• 36 hours per week
• Every other weekend
• 13-week assignment

Qualifications:

• Active RN licensure and compliance with New York State Nurse Practice Act
• Minimum of 5 years’ RN experience, including substantial recent experience within a Cardiac Telemetry or Cardiac Stepdown/PCU department
• Valid BLS and ACLS certifications required
• Documented proficiency with telemetry; completed skills checklist submission required
• Experience managing diverse cardiac and post-operative diagnoses: TAVR, Watchman procedures, mitral clips, heart catheterizations, pre-/post-op open heart (post-CVICU transfer), cardiac IV/PO medications, cardio-specific drips (cardizem, amiodarone, dobutamine, lidocaine, milrinone, heparin, insulin), anticoagulation, CHF, chest pain, arrhythmias, NSTEMI/STEMI/PE, post-op CABG (over 3 days), sepsis, pneumonia, stroke, and observation cases
• Skilled in use of TR bands, groin management, recognizing and managing complications
• Prior experience educating patients/families in clinical and disease management

Responsibilities:

• Provide evidence-based nursing care through comprehensive assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation for cardiac stepdown patients
• Serve as primary nurse for multiple patients in accordance with care standards and unit protocols
• Educate patients and families, fostering a healing, patient-centered environment
• Safely administer cardiac medications and drips, and monitor for adverse events
• Collaborate within interdisciplinary teams, participate in ongoing quality improvement, and support the Nursing Shared Governance Model
• Mentor and assist onboarding of new colleagues and students
