With technology becoming increasingly more advanced and complex, it’s important to understand the role of an HL7 interface professional within the healthcare system. Now that HL7 is used in more than 20 countries across the globe, it is important to understand what duties and requirements are asked of an interface and HL7 specialist. Licensed individuals will be asked to perform document control duties, as well as help tie together the facility’s patient registration system, EMR protocol system and transcription system by coordinating them through the HL7 interface. It is increasingly becoming a health standard across hospitals and other medical facilities around the globe, and the demand for knowledge of HL7 interfaces is high. The professional will also be asked to link systems, assess the validity and efficiency of current systems and send communications across all existing systems. The ability to think quickly, stay on top of systems technologies and communicate effectively to coworkers is required.
