Sign Language Interpreter - ASL job in Alameda, CA

Location: Alameda, CA

Hours: 30 hours per week

Job Description: We are seeking a skilled American Sign Language Interpreter to work at a local school district in Alameda, CA. The ideal candidate will have experience working with 1 or 2 students and be passionate about facilitating communication and ensuring equal access to education for all students.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide interpretation services for students in various educational settings, including classrooms, meetings, and extracurricular activities.
  • Facilitate communication between deaf or hard of hearing students and teachers, staff, and peers.
  • Translate spoken language into American Sign Language (ASL) and vice versa accurately and effectively.
  • Adapt interpreting techniques to accommodate the needs and preferences of individual students.
  • Collaborate with teachers, administrators, and other support staff to ensure a supportive and inclusive learning environment for all students.

Requirements:

  • Certification as an ASL interpreter preferred.
  • Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and English.
  • Experience working as an interpreter in educational settings preferred.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism.
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing schedules and student needs.
