Five New Year’s Resolutions for Medical Professionals

 on /

Welcome to 2017! We have a fresh, new start to the year, and it’s filled with opportunities to improve ourselves, hone our professional abilities, and have a little fun. You might have already made a list of resolutions that include the old standbys of losing weight, eating healthier, or saving more money, but it’s a perfect time to start on the way to achieving new professional goals or creating good work habits with some extra resolutions. Here are a few easy ideas that can help you make 2017 a successful new year in your professional life.

Give your career a boost

If you’ve been putting off signing up for a new credentialing course, going back to school for the next level of your degree, or booking a trip to a professional conference for learning and networking, make 2017 the year you make it happen! By increasing your knowledge base and obtaining a new degree or certification, you’ll be improving your effectiveness in the workplace and increasing your earning potential.

Show your gratitude

A simple thank you can go a long way to creating a better environment at work or with your patients. Let the thanks be free flowing, even for simple, expected tasks. It will help you to feel good about your coworkers and it will make them happy to be appreciated.

Schedule weekly “me-time”

It can be hard to make time for yourself between the business of work and the responsibilities of home and family, but for your own health and sanity, it’s a critical task. Just as it’s important to including taking care of your home and health on your schedule, it’s just as important to schedule in time for you to do things that make you happy.

Make someone smile every day

There’s nothing that feels better than seeing a smile on the face of someone else and knowing that you were the one who instigated their happiness. Whether it’s a random act of kindness, a token gift, or some encouraging words to a patient, make a conscious effort to bring a smile to the face of at least one person each day. You’ll both be happier.

Advocate in the workplace

While work isn’t always a fun or fair place, there are times when you shouldn’t just grin and bear it. Though you shouldn’t become a person who tattles and complains about every tiny offense, make sure that 2017 is the year you speak up – both for yourself and for others. If you see something, say something and be sure to advocate when you’re being treated unfairly, as well.

With a few thoughtful resolutions, you can make 2017 a better year for you, your patients and co-workers. Choose some of these resolutions or make some of your own that will help to make everyone’s day a little brighter and lives a little happier. Happy New Year to you! From all of us at Soliant, we hope that 2017 brings you health, wealth, love, and happiness.
